New Mexico passed the million mark earlier today for the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses it has administered, with 37.4% of residents having had at least one shot and 22.4% fully vaccinated.
As those numbers increase, the health department this morning added more groups in Phase 1B of its vaccination plan, as well as all of 1C to the list of those who are now eligible for a vaccine. The state says that means roughly 1.62 million of the 1.68 million people 16 years and older in the state are therefore eligible. In terms of groups, the new phases add all frontline workers; all essential workers; people in congregate settings; and all people 60 years and up.
New Mexico health officials today reported 226 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 189,374. The health department has designated 170,799 of those as recovered.
Bernalillo County had 84 new cases, followed by Doña Ana County with 41 and Sandoval County with 29. Santa Fe County had the fourth highest number of new cases: 17. Nine of those cases were in the 87507 ZIP code, which ranked fifth in the state for the most new cases today.
The state also announced five additional deaths from four counties; there have now been 3,882 fatalities statewide.
As of today, 130 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.*
