COVID-19 Map
Youth who have been vaccinated and waited an appropriate length of time may participate in sports together without wearing masks, according to amendments to public health orders announced today by New Mexico officials.
The public health order now reads, in part:
“Face coverings shall be worn at all times by participants three and older. The only exception is for fully vaccinated players on the field of play. A person is considered fully vaccinated when they reach two weeks after their second dose of Pfizer and Moderna or two weeks after their one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. A person is considered fully vaccinated when they reach two weeks after their second dose of Pfizer and Moderna or two weeks after their one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. To ensure compliance, vaccination attestation must be tracked by the New Mexico Activities Association or the team’s affiliated sports association. Sports associations must report de-identified vaccination data to the Office of the Governor when requested.”
The state also announced more cash incentive programs aimed at group sports. Youth sports, cheer, dance, academic teams ages 17 years of age and under which include 10 or more youth, along with their coaching staff are challenged to become fully vaccinated during a six-week period ending July 29 to be eligible for cash prizes ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. New Mexico is setting aside $1 million for youth teams which will be available on a first come basis until funds are expended.
The state’s first vaccination sweepstakes drawing is set to take place Friday as the state moves toward its goal of 60% vaccination. Currently, 67.8% of New Mexicans have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 59% are fully vaccinated. In Santa Fe County, 76% have had at least one dose and 66.5% are fully inoculated.
State health officials today reported 106 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 204,577, with 192,777 designated as recovered.
Bernalillo County had the most cases: 23, followed by Doña Ana County with 15 and the Torrance County Detention Center with 12. Santa Fe County had 10 cases, six of which came from the 87507 ZIP code.
The state also announced five additional deaths, each from a different county; there have now been 4,310 fatalities.

- A female in her 80s from Bernalillo County. The individual had underlying conditions.
- A male in his 40s from Colfax County. The individual was hospitalized and had underlying conditions.
- A male in his 50s from Lea County. The individual was hospitalized.
- A female in her 70s from Otero County. The individual had underlying conditions and was a resident of the Good Samaritan Betty Dare facility in Alamogordo.
- A female in her 50s from San Juan County. The individual was hospitalized.
