Santa Fe’s interim city manager remains a mystery after Mayor Alan Webber withdrew his appointment of Erin McSherry to fill the role during the Oct. 30 governing body meeting.
In a brief statement Thursday afternoon, Webber said the choice was McSherry’s.
“After executive session, Erin McSherry requested to remain in her City Attorney role, therefore I withdrew the appointment,” he said.
Outgoing City Manager John Blair announced his resignation Oct. 22 to take a job in Washington, D.C.
During a special governing body meeting Oct. 25, Webber appointed McSherry as the interim city manager, Senior Assistant City Attorney Marcos Martinez as interim city attorney and Andréa Salazar as city clerk. The City Council approved Salazar’s appointment at the Oct. 30 governing body meeting, but Webber then withdrew the other two appointments. Salazar’s first day will be Nov. 12.
“I am excited for this next opportunity. The City Clerk role will allow me a chance to continue the work I started when I previously worked for the city,” she said in a statement released Thursday.
Under city code, the mayor must appoint a qualified city employee to temporarily perform the city manager’s duties until the selected city manager is appointed. The appointment is then subject to the consent of a majority of all members of the City Council within 72 hours at “a legally noticed special city council meeting.”
Communications Director Regina Ruiz tells SFR this means the process will start over, and Webber will soon appoint another candidate.
