New Mexico's COVID-19 testing capacity—one of the state's gating criteria for reopening sectors of the economy—has dipped below the target of 5,000 tests per day. Currently, the state reports 4,910 tests per day on a seven-day rolling average.
New Mexico is meeting all seven of its other criteria, with its rate of effective spread dropping to 0.87—the goal is 1.05 or below—and logging 111 daily cases over a seven-day average, well below the 168-per-day objective.
As New Mexico's cases have been dropping, so have rapid responses—deployed by the state when an employee tests positive—to workplaces for further testing, cleaning and review of safety protocols.
According to the state environment department's most recent rapid response report for the week ending Sept. 6, the state logged 163 rapid responses, versus 235 the week prior. Santa Fe County ranked number six for rapid responses, accounting for 6% or nine of the total rapid responses, at the following workplaces: City of Santa Fe Public Works Department, El Parasol, Big R of Santa Fe, the state Department of Finance Administration, Wendy's on Cerrillos Road, Bank of America Mortgage, New Mexico School for the Arts, Descartes Labs and the Santa Fe New Mexican. The report indicates each workplace had only one positive case in the most recent report, although El Parasol had had two other cases the week prior, while NMSA and the New Mexican had prior rapid responses earlier this summer.
New Mexico health officials today reported 44 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total thus far to 26,181.
Bernalillo County led the state with half of them—22 new cases. Chaves and Eddy counties each had four new cases. Santa Fe County had two.
As of today, 68 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.* No additional deaths were reported today; there have been 807 fatalities so far.
