New Mexico Reports 1,010 New COVID-19 Cases and 13 Deaths

State announces new Santa Fe testing site opening Oct. 31

New Mexico health officials today reported 1,010 new COVID-19 cases—the second highest day so far—bringing the statewide total so far to 45,909.

Bernalillo County led with 335 new cases, followed by Doña Ana County with 248 and Santa Fe County with the third-highest number: 45.

The state also announced 13 additional deaths today—the highest single death toll in one day. Those deaths—from eight counties—included two women in their 20s from Bernalillo and Cibola counties. Santa Fe County also had an additional death: a man in his 80s who was hospitalized and a resident of the Kingston Residence. Statewide, there have now been 1,007 fatalities.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham today ordered state flags to half-staff for a week of mourning beginning Monday, Nov. 2, to sundown Friday, Nov. 6. in recognition of the state of New Mexico recording 1,000 COVID-19 fatalities.

As of today, a record 334 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, 11 more than yesterday and 105 more people than one week ago today.*

The new numbers arrive as the state health department announces a new COVID-19 testing location on Santa Fe's Southside opening tomorrow, Oct. 31. According to a news release, increased demand in testing prompted the second location. The Southside ZIP code 87507 has consistently accounted for the highest number of cases in Santa Fe County: 1,020 of the 1,835 total cases. By comparison, 87501, which includes the downtown area, has had 102. The center of town, 87505: 326.

The testing site at the Public Health Office on Letrado Street in Santa Fe will remain open.

The City of Santa Fe provided the location at 2501 Camino Entrada at Fire Station #9, which will be open 9 am to noon seven days a week. Clients must register for the free drive-through testing beforehand on the DOH website and have their confirmation codes with them when they arrive.

With rising cases, the state also is once again seeking to fill contact-tracing positions statewide by people with education or experience in the health care fields. Applicants can apply by logging onto the State Personnel Office website and navigate to “View Job Opportunities and Apply” at the top right of the page. According to a news release, hiring is virtual, and work will be remote.
