New Mexico health officials today reported 1,022 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the statewide total so far to 50,251.
Bernalillo County led with 266 new cases, followed by Doña Ana County with 197. Eddy and Lea counties had the third highest number of new cases: 53. Santa Fe County had 39.
The state also announced 14 additional deaths, a new record for fatalities in a single day. There have now been 1,059 fatalities.
As of today, 393 people are hospitalized with COVID-19.* According to state news release, 82% of general beds and 75% of ICU beds at New Mexico hospitals are occupied by COVID and non-COVID patients, versus 76% and 67%, respectively, yesterday.
Beginning tomorrow, the Department of Health will establish 12 new testing sites across southern counties where, a news release states, "skyrocketing positivity rates indicate the virus is spreading rapidly." Residents must pre-register for a test at www.doineedacovid19test.com
The environment department today issued its first closure notices under new rules that require any businesses with four or more rapid responses within 14 days to close for 14 days, issuing three such closure notices. Those included one Santa Fe business, Chaparral Materials Inc, at 5946 Agua Fria St., which has had four rapid responses between Oct. 23 and Oct. 29, and is now required to close immediately through Nov. 16, according to a letter issued by the environment department. Deming Manufactured Homes in Luna County and Stampede Meat in Doña Ana County also were ordered to close.
