MISREPRESENTATION
SFR says that "…much of Paul's campaign is driven by the 9/11 Truth Movement, which has grown increasingly aggressive, staging disruptions at events ranging from HBO's
Real Time with Bill Maher
to public appearances by Bill Clinton" [
Outtakes, May 7: "Ron Paul Uprising"
].
I, as a Ron Paul supporter and elected delegate from Bernalillo County to the state convention, do not see this as true in Bernalillo County. Not one Ron Paul supporter that I am aware of has been brandishing the 9.11 "truther" talking points at any of our meetings. I for one don't see any good coming from promoting ideas of drone planes and missiles striking the Pentagon nor in condoning disrupting someone's television talk show as a tactic to call for another 9.11 investigation.
There are, however, reputable people like the "Jersey Girls" who produced a documentary that does an excellent job of challenging the government's version as the final word on 9.11.
Criticism of any government report should not be a rational reason to tar brush anyone who supports Ron Paul for president, or his policies, as a person who would disrupt a former president's stump speech for his wife or carry on a shouting match with a "liberal" comedian.
All of the Ron Paul supporters that I know personally have a strong love of country. They look to the Constitution of the United States as the law of the land and want to influence the political parties, especially the most "conservative" of the two major parties-the GOP-to adhere to those principles and traditions that the framers of this republican system advised us to follow! The traditions and principles of limited government, a mind-our-own-business foreign policy and respect for the freedom and liberty of the individual by respecting his private property is what the Ron Paul supporters are working to re-introduce into the GOP!
There is no truth that the Ron Paul campaign is "driven by the 9.11 truth movement." Even Dr. Paul himself has distanced himself from the so-called "truthers," so it's not fair for SFR to put me and my fellow RP supporters in the same category with people whose theories I personally disagree with.

TRUTH ABOUT TRUTH
I enjoyed most of your article on Ron Paul as most fair reporting. However, this statement: "Furthermore, much of Paul's campaign is driven by the 9/11 Truth Movement..." is totally false, misleading and plain bad journalism. Ron Paul commands anywhere from 5 percent to 10 percent of the GOP vote. We aren't all "9.11 truthers." They aren't "driving" the campaign. Please do your honorable profession more justice next time you write about Ron Paul. Just the facts, sir.

FAR FROM TRUE
In his article "Ron Paul Uprising," Mr. Maass is erroneous and disparaging when he states: "Furthermore, much of Paul's campaign is driven by the 9/11 Truth Movement…"
In my opinion, this misrepresentation of many of Congressman Paul's supporters is either the result of poor research, a conscious attempt at ridicule or both.
From the beginning, much of the drive behind the campaign came from ordinary citizens of various social, economic and political backgrounds- basically average people with average concerns and beliefs.
This is still true today. Labeling average citizens of the United States "the 9/11 Truth Movement" deceives unknowledgeable readers and disparages the "grassroot support" the congressman continues to receive from normal everyday people.

LISTEN UP
As an avid blues listener and musician, I was surprised by Gabe Gomez' review of the new Black Keys album,
Attack and Release
. As he put it, it "should be a new touchstone in contemporary blues and contemporary rock, but sadly it misses the mark" [
CD Review, April 23: "The Black Keys"
].
In my opinion this couldn't be further from the truth. It being the seventh Black Keys album, it was time for something new. They have hit the mark of early pure delta blues musicians on the album
The Big Come Up
in a way almost no current band has.
Attack and Release
takes roots rock in a direction I never saw coming. It's one of the most contemporary albums I have heard to date; the surreal vocal depth of the album and hard, simple riffs has me listening to it over and over like a chain smoker. In the past their albums have been simple and basic; on
Attack
they dive so deep into a surreal world that's hard to dissect and impossible to categorize into one genre.
As for modern rock, they ditched the standard that is often referred to as "white boy blues," and with this album they brought to the table a timeless, mish-mash of musical influences; a brilliantly layered gem. Isn't everyone sick of hearing the same old thing?
If you're a blues fan, go buy it. It will change your mind about good music in these "Modern Times."

THE CITY'S BEST
I hope that progressives will support Zane Fischer when the bright and beautiful people in Santa Fe's housing industry attack him for revealing their machinations [

DOG SUPPORT
As a follow-up to the article "Dog Gone" [
]: There is an urgent need for thoughtful, proactive planning regarding prairie dogs in Santa Fe, given the swift pace at which prairie dogs are disappearing from the city.
We request the City of Santa Fe review and adopt the conservation plan dated Feb. 2, 2006. This plan begins where the city ordinance of 2001 ends. The plan promotes the conservation of prairie dogs and the prairie-dog ecosystem within the city and its outlying areas.
Santa Fe has the opportunity to again be in the vanguard, within the range of the Gunnison's, by adopting a city-wide approach that includes the creation of a preserve network to accommodate relocated prairie dogs, as well as protecting some colonies where they currently exist in the city.
